Each year at this time, I give thought to the many things that I have to be thankful for. When I do think of Thanksgiving my mind goes back around 50 years ago, during the Vietnam years, when I got discharged from the Army the day before Thanksgiving. I am grateful for all those who are on active duty as well as those who served during any conflict.
But, I have so much more to be thankful for, my wife Kathy and our 46 years of marriage. Our 3 sons, Patrick, Damian and Jacob. Our four grandsons, Patrick lll, Preston, Jacob JR and Jude and their moms, Dana and Holly. All of this is truly the greatest gift of all.
I had the greatest Mum and Dad and my brothers and sisters. My Mum and Dad became the basis for my book Hard Days, Hard Nights. They had 9 kids and we lived in a 2 bedroom house. My 4 brothers and I lived in the attic with no heat or hot water.
What I learned from them was to be grateful for everything you have and to not complain. My parents gave me the greatest gift of all – they believed in me and for that, I am truly grateful.
I am grateful for my Grandmother who lived next door. When I was a child, she took me with her to church everyday and taught me how to pray and when I do that even today, I know that something wonderful is happening.
What are you grateful for?
